Susan Murphy, RN, BSN, MS, is the Chief Experience Officer for UChicago Medicine, where she leads experience improvement initiatives for patient, families and staff. In this role, she works closely with the clinical effectiveness analytics team to study and initiate programs and services to improve the healthcare experience and maximize patient engagement. Prior to her role at UChicago, Sue was the Vice President of Patient Experience for Vanguard Health, where she led experience strategies that improved system-wide patient satisfaction scores. Sue has a successful track record of driving innovations that improve meaningful connections with patients, including hourly rounding, nursing leadership rounding, comfort rounds and post-hospitalization callbacks. She has also provided coaching to nurses, physicians, other frontline staff and leadership on results and best practices to ensure continuous improvement. In 2018, Sue was presented with the Kate Granger Compassionate Care Award by HIMSS.
