The start of the COVID-19 pandemic led to restrictions related to in-person patient visitation, and thus initially created a barrier for families to fully engage, both as active members of the care team and as emotional supports. This session will focus on patient and family engagement using virtual platforms to facilitate empathetic interactions. Part of the session will address strategies for increasing opportunities for connection between patients and families, even with limited virtual access/resources. Additionally, to ensure the patient and family voice remains at the forefront, practical tips for maintaining engagement with Patient and Family Advisors will be shared. By partnering with Patient and Family Advisors in various virtual formats to meet their needs, we continue to progress toward a human-centered care environment.
