If Compassion Matters So Much, Why Isn't It Universal?

May 12, 2021
1:45pm - 2:05pm

In this session, physician scientist and Chair of Medicine Stephen Trzeciak, MD, MPH will lay out the evidence for a compassion crisis in healthcare, and he will make the case for examining the effects of compassion through the lens of science.  Dr. Trzeciak will present the data that:

  • Compassionate care is not just a “nice to have”; it is evidence-based medicine.
  • Compassionate behaviors can be taught and learned (and measured).
  • Compassion connections only take 40 seconds.
  • Compassion can actually be an antidote to burnout.

Dr. Trzeciak will share with you his personal story of going through burnout himself, and how compassion made all the difference.  He will also share the major lesson about the power of compassion that he learned from the pandemic.
