Dr. Hernandez is Professor of Medical Education and Director of Physician Vitality at Loma Linda University School of Medicine and has been affiliated with Loma Linda University Health for over 30 years. She serves approximately 2700 physicians, residents, and medical students through mental health support, education and wellness programming. She works closely with the Graduate Medical Education office to initiate wellness for residency program directors and coordinators.
Dr. Hernandez most recently was associate professor and coordinator of doctoral clinical experience, and program coordinator of medical family therapy in the School of Behavioral Health at Loma Linda University. She has taught and provided clinical supervision for graduate students in medicine, counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, and public health. She has directed counseling university and training clinics, and maintained a private practice for many years where she specialized in young adult mental health, medical provider care, and grief recovery. Her publications cover a range of issues such as spirituality, physician wellbeing, intimate partner abuse experienced by physicians, ambiguous loss and the use of reflection in medical education.
