Disparities Spotlighted by the Pandemic

March 11, 2021
11:32am - 11:45am

What are social determinants of health? What do they mean to the patient and caregiver and how do they impact that relationship? In this opening keynote, Aaron Goldenberg, associate professor and vice chair, Department of Bioethics in the School of Medicine, Case Western, will discuss this relationship in light of the past year's COVID-19 crisis and with the results of a survey his team carried out at a local Cleveland healthcare facility. He will tease out some of the findings from this survey and how it shows national trends mirror the local. COVID-19 shone a bright light on many failings in healthcare. Goldenberg will talk about how while bias and SDOH have been growing concerns in the industry, the pandemic highlighted these issues and have hopefully given the industry a path forward to addressing these key topics.
