Ageism in the Age of a Pandemic

December 10, 2020
1:00pm - 1:30pm

Ageism comes to the forefront of COVID-19. The pandemic places a toll on the elderly population with nursing homes representing 1 of 4 of all COVID-19 deaths in the US. How are providers able to give the same quality of care when many are not able to visit the hospital?

Author and Activist, Ashton Applewhite, kicks off the session to discuss how ageism and ableism are present today. How do these attitudes affect the ways we interact with the elderly population and their own well being? We will then be joined by Ardeshir Hashmi from the Cleveland Clinic, to continue the conversation on how providers can adapt their system to better combat these attitudes as well as re-imagining healthcare design for the elderly in a post CVOID-19 world.
