Christina M. Canfield, MSN, APRN, ACNS-BC, CCRN-E, is the Program Manager for ICU Telemedicine. Canfield is a board-certified adult clinical nurse specialist and critical-care registered nurse. Christina has spent the majority of her 19 year career within the Cleveland Clinic health system. Her work surrounding critical care nurses’ perceived needs in addressing patient spirituality gained national attention. She has also published peer-reviewed articles on diabetes and ICU telemedicine and served as co-editor and contributing author for a patient-focused book Navigating Your Hospital Stay: A Guide Written by Expert Nurses. She has spoken nationally and internationally on the topics of telemedicine, recognizing changes in patient condition and management of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Telemedicine continues to offer dynamic possibilities to provide our care everywhere. e-Hospital caregivers impact the lives of our patients and caregivers from one central location offering consultative services, infection prevention, and quality assurance. e-CMU allows for secondary monitoring of all of our patients on continuous hemodynamic monitoring across the health system to be monitored in one care area. It also has overcome the alarm fatigue typically experienced in “war rooms” through an innovative algorithm that identifies patients most likely to have an event.
