In this fascinating case study, attendees will learn how the Skull Base and Pituitary Tumor Program at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif., implemented virtual reality for patient consult, intraoperative navigation, and post-operative checkup.

The platform creates patient-specific 360-degree VR models from cross-sectional imaging (CT, MRI) that can be manipulated and viewed in high resolution at any angle and allows the patient and physician to be fully immersed in the patient's anatomy. Patient feedback from a survey study revealed significantly higher rankings for overall satisfaction compared to prior care. HCAHPS scores for hospital rating and hospital recommendation were ~20% higher for Hoag compared to the national average, and 93% of patients reported that they would definitely recommend the doctor.

These findings support not only the the technology-enhanced clinical practice approach for treating complex skull base and pituitary tumors, but also using VR technology across the patient care continuum.
