Alicia Burkle has served in multiple roles in the Cleveland Clinic’s Central Monitoring Unit since its inception. She has been involved in the expansion of the CMU and was responsible for developing and maintaining their QA program. Alicia was involved in the standardization of cardiac monitoring throughout the Cleveland Clinic enterprise resulting in a publication in the Journal of the American Medical Association. In 2016, Alicia joined the project team for the newly developed eCMU platform and has assisted in managing the project through the successful deployment to all Cleveland Clinic Northeast Ohio hospitals and Cleveland Clinic Florida. Alicia has participated in several alarm management initiatives throughout the Cleveland Clinic including a recent pilot that has resulted in the enterprise-wide initiative to standardize telemetry alarms at all Cleveland Clinic in-patient facilities. Alicia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and just completed her MBA at Excelsior College.
Telemedicine continues to offer dynamic possibilities to provide our care everywhere. e-Hospital caregivers impact the lives of our patients and caregivers from one central location offering consultative services, infection prevention, and quality assurance. e-CMU allows for secondary monitoring of all of our patients on continuous hemodynamic monitoring across the health system to be monitored in one care area. It also has overcome the alarm fatigue typically experienced in “war rooms” through an innovative algorithm that identifies patients most likely to have an event.
