Empathy and Boundaries for All

May 15, 2019
1:30pm - 2:10pm
Grand Ballroom

Workplace violence is a growing concern in healthcare, with staff facing a four-times greater risk of serious injuries than workers in the private sector, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. This can create a distressing conflict: How do healthcare professionals manage the balance between being an empathetic caregiver while oftentimes facing the risk of assault?

In this session, a panel of experts will discuss best practices for addressing workplace violence in healthcare. These include giving caregivers the resources needed to help them de-escalate violent situations while maintaining a caring compassion approach to patients and family. It also requires that healthcare leaders take the steps necessary to protect caregivers from violent acts.
